In its current form, AB2222 would change the designation of many hunting/sporting/competition firearms that use .50 caliber BMG and place them into a category similar to that of "Assault Weapons." It would also ban .50 caliber ammunition cartridges. This bill would create a new level of bureaucracy and cause more unnecessary trouble and expense to law-abiding firearms owners. AB2222 is currently scheduled to be heard in the Assembly Public Safety Committee on April 16, 2002. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> AB2902 (Koretz) Allows the California Department of Justice (CA DOJ) to randomly retest up to 10% of the handguns required to be tested under SB15. This bill would also allow the CA DOJ to "recall" any handgun it feels that fails their secondary testing. There is no clear definition of what "recall" means in this bill. Just because a handgun "fails" the CA DOJ's secondary tests, doesn't necessarily mean that a handgun is actually unsafe. This "failure" just opens the door to more litigation. AB2902 is currently scheduled to be heard in the Assembly Public Safety Committee on April 16, 2002. >>>>>>>>>>>>>> ACTION REQUESTED: Please contact the members of the Assembly Public Safety Committee and voice your opposition to both of these bills.
