M. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ IMPORTANT LEGISLATIVE ACTIVITY AB2222 (Koretz) was heard Tuesday, April 16th, (testimony only, no vote taken) in the Assembly Public Safety Committee and is scheduled for a vote on Tuesday, April 23, 2002 after further amendments are made. Although AB2222 is being amended, NRA remains in strong opposition. AB2902 (Koretz) Passed out of the Assembly Public Safety Committee but thanks to your constant pressure, this bill has been substantially amended - removing all "recall" provisions. In its current form, AB2902 would allow the California Department of Justice (CA DOJ) to randomly retest up to 10% of the handguns required to be tested under SB15. But, instead of allowing for a "recall" of any handgun that fails CA DOJ's secondary testing, CA DOJ would be required to notify the public of such "failure." Just because a handgun fails the CA DOJs secondary tests, doesn't necessarily mean that a handgun is actually unsafe. This failure just opens the door to more litigation. We are currently watching this bill closely and will keep you informed on any further information. AB2902 will next be heard in the Assembly Appropriations Committee. >>>>>>>>>>>>>> ACTION REQUESTED: Please contact the members of the Assembly Public Safety Committee and voice your opposition to AB2222.
