CALIFORNIA REGULATORY ALERT -- URGENT!  -- ACTION REQUIRED!
This information is accurate at the time this CAL-ERT was written and originally distributed. The NRA Members' Councils of California and the California Rifle and Pistol Association have issued this alert in a cooperative effort and will keep you informed as issues affect your gun-rights in California.

EXPANSION OF THE BAN ON LEAD AMMUNITION BEFORE FISH & GAME COMMISSION - VOTE PENDING!

HISTORY:
The National Rifle Association and California Rifle and Pistol Association have been working tirelessly to oppose the schemes of the anti-hunters, anti-gunners, and radical environmental activists that would ban the use of traditional ammunition by responsible hunters and sportsmen.

Examples of our alerts can be found at: http://www.calnra.com/calerts/calert020509.shtml and http://www.calnra.com/calerts/calert061209.shtml .  More information related to this issue can be found at: http://www.calnra.com/newsbriefs/CondorPapers.htm and mixed throughout the political satire and commentary found in News Briefs .

Although proponents of the current ban in the "Condor Zone" have wanted lead ammunition banned state-wide, they have not been able to achieve that goal.  So now they're attempting an incremental approach!  They are currently attempting to expand the scope of the ban within the "Condor Zone."

SCIENCE OR ANTI-GUN SCARE TACTICS:
There is no scientific evidence that lead ammunition is the source of lead affecting the health of condors released to the wild.  There is no scientific evidence that lead ammunition is a risk to human health and the environment in California.  What is evident is that there are a group of special interests who will not stop until the most affordable, available, and balistically superior ammunition available is banned in our state.  When that happens they know the damage it will do to hunting and shooting participation.

CURRENT SITUATION:
On August 6, the California Fish and Game Commission will be holding its final meeting to consider adoption of the Proposed Resident Small Game & Migratory Upland Game Lead Ban in the Condor Zone.

CRPA and NRA urge you to speak out now on the Lead Ammunition Ban issue.  This might be your final opportunity to stop this lead ban proposal.  By stopping the adoption of this proposed regulation, we might be able to halt the Lead Ammunition Ban expansion in California.

CRPA & NRA OPPOSE  the addition of sections 311.1 & 507.2, Title 14, CCR for the following reasons:

  • There are no conclusive studies to demonstrate the connection between lead projectiles used by legitimate hunters and elevated lead levels in the condor population.

  • Downed small and upland game is immediately retrieved and removed from the field, thus leaving no opportunity for lead to be left behind in the field and ingested by condors.

  • The Department of Fish and Game does not support expanding the use of nonlead projectiles under the proposed regulations.

CRPA and  NRA SUPPORT the "No Change Option"; the Department of Fish and Game also supports the "No Change Option".

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO WIN.  TAKE PART IN THE POLITICAL PROCESS.

BE PROACTIVE  ---  GET INVOLVED  ---  GIVE YOUR OPINION NOW!

So, where does all of this leave shooters, hunters, and sportsmen, in the Golden State?  That, is up to us.  We must all work together!

ACTION REQUESTED:

  1. Please write AND call the California Fish and Game Commission and request that they oppose all efforts to expand the ban on lead ammunition. Be professional, courteous and concise.  Don't forget to ask them to enter your opposition into the official record.

  2. If you can attend the Fish and Game Commission meeting on August 6th, in Woodland, CA., PLEASE ATTEND  and let your voice be heard.  Inform the Commissioners that you do not support any expansion of the Lead Ammunition Ban in California. Plan to arrive at 8:15 a.m., in the parking lot of the Yolo Fliers Club for a briefing by CRPA and NRA.
