Even if you don't live in San Mateo County, you can
help defeat these proposed ordinances |
SAN MATEO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO CONSIDER GUN CONTROL
ORDINANCES
Next Tuesday morning, December 15, 2009, at 9:15a.m., (time
specific) the full Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County will
consider and vote on whether to adopt two ordinances that impact
the rights of lawful gun owners in that County.
One ordinance will require that all firearms that are lost or
stolen be reported to law enforcement within 48 hours of when
the owner knew or should have known it was lost or stolen. The
other ordinance is an extensive, draconian regulation of
firearms, firearm components, and ammunition vendors, which will
basically make it impossible to have a gun store in the County
of San Mateo.
NRA and CRPA attorneys have drafted opposition letters to both of these
ordinances and have submitted them to the Board of Supervisors
and County Counsel.
IMMEDIATE
ACTION REQUESTED:
We ask that you please contact the members of the San Mateo
Board of Supervisors and voice your opposition to both of these
blatant infringements on our right to bear arms!

San Mateo County
Board of Supervisors and the County Clerk by using the special "ONE
CLICK" email address that you can find
HERE
. By sending one email to the special "ONE CLICK" address,

one of the County Supervisors and the County Clerk will receive
a copy of your message .

Hall of Justice located at 400 County Center, Redwood
City, CA 94063 at 9:15a.m. Please dress appropriately and act

FACTS REGARDING THESE
PROPOSED ORDINANCES:
Dealer Ordinance
-
It is simply meant to harass any person who wants to sell
anything related to firearms
-
It is a sneaky way to impede the 2nd
Amendment right of access to firearms and ammo
-
With all of the requirements it makes it cost-prohibitive to
be a firearm or ammo dealer
-
It is a push of LCAV’s agenda, not San Mateo County’s, as
SMC doesn’t even have a dealer in its jurisdiction
-
It subjects firearm
component
vendors to the same restrictions as firearm vendors
-
The zoning requirement leaves virtually no place for firearm
or ammo dealers to have a store within the unincorporated
area of San Mateo.
-
It is full of
illegal provisions: > it violates the 2nd
Amendment rights of people between 18-21 years of age,
because it prohibits them from entering a gun store where
handguns are sold
>
it conflicts with state law in various instances
> it violates the Equal Protection rights of firearm
and ammo dealers, as well as those ages 18-21 years
Duty to Report
-
It turns victims of theft into criminals
“Victimizes the Victims!"
-
It has no effect against real bad guys, because the Fifth
Amendment prevents prosecution for failure to report a lost or
stolen gun they should not have had.
-
It puts prosecutors in a dilemma: to prosecute a person
-
It stifles cooperation with police in cases of stolen firearms,
and thus impeded investigations into real criminals
-
It is not enforced in cities that already have it and thus a
waste of time
Remember:
Even if you
don't live in San Mateo County, your
help is needed to defeat these proposals. Please call and
email the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and/or attend the
Supervisors Meeting on December 15, 2009 and voice your opposition!
And tell your neighbors to do the same.
