- Famous Gun-Grabber Rosie O'Donnell
"...A mere
5 million viewers tuned in Friday for the 8 p.m. bow of
Rosie O'Donnell's variety show, "Rosie Live," on NBC. The show
has been dropped from the network's schedule...."
- News Item from Al-Reuters, November 30, 2008
To All,
Those who live by the boycott.....
In other
news...
Was that a gun in your pocket, or....?:
It's amazing where one finds one's firearms news of late.
In this case, it comes from the Big Horse-Apple in the form the most famous
"AD" (accidental discharge) since Joe Biden told an environmental activist
on the campaign trail that he and Obama were going to ban coal used for
electrical generation east of the Mississippi.
From the New York Post, it seems that Plaxico Burress of the New York Giants
is the recipient of an alleged self-inflicted gunshot-wound involving the
unfortunate placement of a loaded Glock somewhere in his pants (Don't worry
sports fans, he missed his injured hamstring...).
Unfortunately for Burress, he had not gotten a permission slip from New
York's Mayor-For-Life Michael Bloomberg to be taking his personal security
into his own hands when out on the town carrying cash and designer watches.
Nor apparently did he have one from Governor Corzine in New Jersey, where
Burress resides in the after-hours.
How New York, New Jersey, and possibly even Federal authorities deal with
Burress's possession and transportation across state lines of a loaded and
concealable firearm, one of which he may not have been in a position to
possess, will most likely be of extreme interest to firearms rights
activists in the coming months.
That is because the Burress story is inspiring an "off with their heads"
response from Bloomberg towards everyone who was either helping Burress
avoid New York's gun laws (bad) and New York PD's famous gun detail ( after
the Diallo controversy, understandable...). Bloomberg wants everyone who
conceivably could have been in a position to have informed on Burress to the
NYPD, but didn't, to face the wrath of, well, Mayor Bloomberg (Or be fired,
which for a civic public health professional is the equivalent of the death
penalty...). After all, how can Bloomberg sell gun control to the other
states when it can be demonstrated that it doesn't even work in his own
jurisdiction? (Somewhere in Georgia, certain firearms retailers must be
laughing into their Budweisers...).
Truly, it could just be that a large number of firearms laws in New York and
New Jersey might just be shown to be worth the 2-ply tissue they were
drafted on with this incident. And this may also drag in (possibly down)
that long-time bane of gun owners, Senator Frank Lautenberg, since it
appears that Burress may have been in possession of a firearm in New Jersey
while apparently also having been restricted under two separate domestic
restraining orders filed by his wife in 2008 alone.
Face it, Burress is just one of a number of celebrity firearms stories where
firearms laws are ignored, or their violation buried for various amounts of
time. In the Burress case, it just came out sooner due to the fact that he
shot himself in front of witnesses in a nightclub and was allegedly seen
hollering and screaming for medical care on the dance floor.
Even if Bloomberg gets his wish and Burress is locked up well after
Bloomberg moves on to civilian retirement (Can't happen soon enough for this
poster...), it is clear that those with something to protect feel inclined
to take "extra" precautions when prowling the urban landscape. Politicians
like Bloomberg should just wake up and smell the coffee (if he hasn't banned
it yet like trans-fat...) and start working on gun laws that bring the
common citizen to parity with the armed criminal. Otherwise, it's going to
happen again. And New York City does not have the funds, nor the
inclination, to furnish every visitor with his own personal security guard.
Stay tuned.
