Amanda Carpenter reports at
Townhall.com about an AirAmerica interview given by Rep. Jim Cooper (D-TN)
about the way the House of Representatives is being run in the Age of Obama.
It seems that with the suspension
of Republican reforms dating back to 1995, not even conservative (and
presumably pro-gun) Democrats currently get to offer up amendments on
legislation that would otherwise adversely affect the country.
Cooper and 49 other "Blue Dogs" have
apparently forwarded a letter of protest to the House Leadership, politely
"requesting" that future legislation be opened up for amendment from the
floor. There is no word yet from Rep. Steny Hoyer as to whether that change
will happen any time soon.
There are a number of folks worried out
there that a "Tom Foley" moment is fast approaching on a number of gun
control measures currently in the hopper. If rules are not changed quickly,
the House floor is going to become hotter than Hades in short order. Stay
tuned.
Hans A. von Spakovsky reports at
WeeklyStandard.com as to the potential conflict of interests that may have
occurred over Labor Secretary-Designate Hilda Solis's involvement in "card
check" lobbying while being a Congressional co-sponsor of legislation
authorizing the very same.
Von Spakovsky reports that Solis was a
co-sponsor of the Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act while
at the same time being the treasurer of the group "American Rights at Work". ARW was actively
lobbying Congress on the union "wish list" item that would seemingly do away
with secret ballot votes on whether workers want to unionize a particular
workplace or not, as well as potentially permit such unionization with
claimed minority representation.
Currently, Presidente-Supremo Obama has
selected a Labor Department bureaucrat, Ed Hugler, to be "acting" Secretary
of Labor while Solis' nomination is being held up over the potential
conflict issues involving ARW.
But it is clear that Team Obama's
vetting methods leave a lot to be desired with these latest rash of
nomination implosions. One can only wonder how Obama intends to run the
country when he can't even choose the right people to delegate power to.
Stay tuned.
One Man's Bacon Is Another Man's Class Action Tort:
Ralph Hallow writes in Wednesday's
WashingtonTimes.com about Robert F. Kennedy's belief (if not quotation) that
the nation's hog farmers are more of a threat to national security than
Osama Bin Laden.
Kennedy, noted environmentalist whacko, falconer,
and corporate jet frequent flier apparently also believes that "...the
right lawsuit..." brought against the nation's livestock producers and
ranchers might result in damage awards of "...up to $ 13 billion...".
Hallow's reportage of the Kennedy admission comes
at an opportune moment at the beginning of the Obama Imperial Regnum. What
with Kennedy trying to paint the Red Dot of Death on livestock operations,
and environmentalists pushing to de-industrialize the United States before
the public "wises up" to the various Greenie scams working the hallways of
Congress and the various Legislatures, there may not be an economy to
resurrect with any stimulus bill at all.
Perhaps something can be done about these kinds of risky
schemes before they get started. Maybe it's time to start charging targeted
excise taxes on environmental lawsuits, say $ 1.00 per page per lawsuit
filed in Federal Court. Given the current work loads, this latest form of
"Patriot Tax" may just cure our economic ills and allosaurus-sized national
debt in short order. It can't be any worse for the economy than charging
some $ 1.00 more per cigarette pack, and think of all the trees that would
be saved. Stay tuned.
