"...A key labor union ally of the Obama Administration has
mounted an effort to create government-mandated worker
retirement accounts as an entitlement program, with the
possibility that a portion of all private retirement funds
could be forced into U. S. Treasury debt...."
- Excerpts from a March 26, 2010 article at
World Net Daily, by Jerome Corsi, regarding
a very old and not so bright idea.
"...They pretend to pay, and we pretend to work..."
- Key Term and Condition of Soviet Economic
Collective Model, circa 1964.
To All,
It's okay folks, it's for our own "good". Next thing you know, they are going to
want our Winchesters too.
Uh, right.
To paraphrase a certain Narcissist-In-Chief- " Go For It."
In other news:
Journalism My Derriere Update:
Jack Dolan writes at LaTimesblogs about how the Chief Administrative Officer
of the California State Assembly, Jon Waldie, is responding to a Public Records
Act request by the Times in a way all too familiar to NRA activists in the Fool's
Golden State.
It seems that Waldie has finally responded to a long-standing request for
employee name and salary data, consisting of a hardcopy record of some 4600
names of some of the best paid miscreants this side of Chicago. Some 230,000
additional names have yet to be produced, perhaps for the reason that it is too
burdensome for Waldie to stick a "thumb" drive into his laptop and do a
"drag-and-drop".
But it also seems that Dolan is a-weepin' and a-wailin' that Waldie did not send
it Fed Ex Priority Overnight, Ready-To-Sort in an Excel 2007 files.
Well, Boo-Freaking-Hoo.
It's not enough that certain special interests, including government agencies,
practically write much of the copy for what claims to be a Free Press these days.
And it's not enough that it takes citizen activists to go and do the investigative
work that people like Dolan appear to not be able to give up their Craig's List
surfing over. (Some activists even have been known to manually transcribe over
40 years of biological test values from an endangered species program, if that
is what it takes to get to the bottom of "junk science".).
But one would at least expect that someone like a Jack Dolan could "grok"
the possibility that his hard copy document production could at least be
electronically scanned into OCR-capable PDF files, giving him a decent
capability for computer-driven scan and search activities.
And because Dolan is a "blog" columnist, posting his material in one of the
most modern journalistic methods available, he would at least be able to drop
a dime to Leo Laporte (KFI-640 AM's "Tech Guy) and ask any number of "dumb
questions" regarding modern scanning capabilities.
In reality, many government agencies have demonstrated an interesting
propensity to delay Public Record Act production as long as possible. In
some cases, it seems that these agencies are almost hoping for folks to give
up and walk away from the data that the public has a right to know. At least in
the Dolan/LA Times case, we have at least learned that the Legislature will
produce the kind of data it takes to get to the bottom of feather-bedding,
nepotism, and general boondoggling that seems to pass for governmental
activity in Sacramento these days (Interested activists should just forward a
a Public Records Act request to Waldie and ask for whatever he just produced
for the Los Angeles Times).
But it is the duty of both citizen activists and true journalists to go out and
follow the trail of raw data until it ends. That Dolan appears to be not up to
the task is just par for the course for the organization the produces some of
the finest bird cage liner on the West Coast.

Month of Sundays Update:
The folks over at Investors.com are noting that the recent health care debacle
colloquially known as "Obamacare" (AKA "Bummercare) is already causing
changes in corporate income statements across the Fruited Plain.
Largely due to the halting of various tax credits and subsidies, corporations
such as ATT, John Deere, Caterpillar, Boeing, Verizon, MetLife and Xerox are
going to incur significant hits to the bottom line over the next couple of quarters.
That private retiree health coverage is now an Endangered Species, but
without any possibility of getting a Critical Habitat Listing or being considered a
Candidate for Restoration, is a cold hard fact of life.
This, in turn, begs the question as to if this means such venerable arms
industry companies as Freedom Group (Remington, Marlin, DPMS, Bushmaster,
Dakota Arms, Barnes Bullets), ATK, Nosler, Hornaday, Speer, Browning, Ruger,
Smith and Wesson and the rest are also going to get "whacked" by the
Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act like some of their corporate
brethren. Costs are about to go up as high as a "Myth-Busters" ballistic test,
unless it starts miraculously raining Federal Injunctions out there.
Given that the PPAC may mean a major hit to approved suppliers to the US
Government for it's arms and ammunition needs as well, one can only wonder if
the Administration and the Radical Leadership in Congress were thinking
at all as they watched 2700 pages go sailing past their noses.
Oh well, if there ever was a time to buy arms and ammo "early and often",
perhaps 2010 can be another banner year for US gunmakers. Stuff is not
going to get any cheaper.

A Tale of Two Paradigms:
Leora Vestel writes at the New York Times about how Transportation
Secretary Ray LaHood is announcing a change in policy preference that
now would give "equal" weighting between driving motorized vehicles and
bicycling or walking.
By way of comparison, the Corporation Formerly Known As Obama Motors
is having a record year building motorized vehicles in a China that has had
long experience with the bicycle as a transportation bulwark. That the Chinese
are not voting with their feet, but with internal combustion, is clear given GM
profits and increased oil consumption in the Middle Kingdom.
It will be interesting to see Secretary LaHood explain how Chicago pizza
makers are supposed to deliver their wares within the 30 minute time
limit in a standard Chicago winter with bicycle-oriented fleets. Or for that
matter whether Congressmen and Senators are going to start developing
physiques like that of Lance Armstrong over the simple task of getting from
Georgetown to Dulles International, or Reagan National, or even Maryland's
BWI. But given the way in which Team Obama is burying the economy under
an avalanche of ill-conceived notions, perhaps it's time to start checking prices
on the latest Schwinn designs from Dorel's Chinese suppliers.
